Acting Director of the Police Directorate Vesko Damjanović made guest appearance on RTCG and said that 10-20 migrants, who are in transit through Montenegro, enter the country on a daily basis, that the police and the competent authorities are ready and monitor the situation and that there are no indicators that these migrations threaten or could jeopardize Montenegro’s security.

“We have, anticipating and monitoring this situation, renovated the former barracks Krenza and Zoganje, and we are also preparing the barrack Božaj for the possible reception of a large number of migrants,” the Acting Director of the Police Directorate said, adding that for now there are no indications that the wave of migrants passing through Montenegro could be increased.

Damjanović said that the current movement of migratory flows has set the migration as the main topic in the countries of the Western Balkans, the relevant institutions of Europe and beyond, and that this topic was on the agenda of several international meetings. The result is enhanced police cooperation and up-to-date monitoring of the situation.

The Acting Director of the Police Directorate urged citizens to inform the police if they have noticed anything unusual about the migrants.

Montenegro changed two laws a few years ago and undertook a series of activities in accordance with its capacities to prepare a border security system, migration and asylum system, in the case of large scale migration, and to responsibly fulfill its international obligations– Acting Director of the Police Directorate Vesko Damjanović said.
