    Podgorica, Montenegro (6 July 2016) — Montenegro has achieved excellent results in meeting requirements for joining the EU and NATO, and can count on all the necessary support from Poland when it comes to the reform process and European and Euro-Atlantic integration. It was concluded during the meeting between Secretary of State for European Integration and Montenegro’s Chief Negotiator, Ambassador Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, and Ambassador of Poland Irena Tatarzynska.

    The Polish Ambassador congratulated Montenegro on the opening of two more chapters and conveyed expectation that the extremely successful dynamics of Montenegro’s accession to the European Union will be continued. In that regard, she said that Montenegro enjoys strong support by the Višegrad Group, and that Poland, which took over the chairmanship of the initiative, will continue, through sharing knowledge and practical experience, to contribute to Montenegro’s faster progress towards EU.

    The meeting concentrated on the upcoming NATO Summit in Warsaw, and Montenegro’s progress towards membership in the Alliance. Ambassador Tatarzynska pledged her country’s full support for Montenegro’s NATO bid and stressed that the Protocol on the Accession received unanimous support in both relevant committees of the Parliament and that ratification process is expected to be completed very soon. She noted that both Montenegro and the Alliance will benefit from Montenegro’s accession. Membership in NATO will accelerate further development of Montenegro and contribute to ensuring peace and stability in the region, the Polish Ambassador underscored.

    Ambassador Pejović expressed satisfaction with excellent cooperation between the two countries and thanked Ambassador Tatarzynska for the support provided by Poland and the Višegrad Group to Montenegro in fulfilling obligations under the demanding European agenda.

    He informed the Polish Ambassador about the key activities Montenegro is planning to implement by the end of 2016, and that Montenegro will be able to open some new chapters by the end of the year.

    When it comes to accession to NATO, Ambassador Pejović said that it is very important for Montenegro to participate in the NATO Summit in Warsaw as an invitee, stressing that the fact makes Poland’s support even more important at the moment.
