Washington DC, USA (18 November 2015) – Minister of Defence Milica Pejanović-Đurišić paid an official visit to the USA, where she met with Vice-President Joseph Biden’s National Security Advisor Colin Cahl and President Barack Obama’s Advisor Celeste Wallander.
Minister Pejanović-Đurišić met with Mr Cahl at the White House and presented to him Montenegro’s progress in the areas relevant for the Euro-Atlantic accession process. She highlighted the role of the USA in this particular process, stressing that the US support was an encouraging signal for achieving positive results in overall reform process in Montenegro.
Adviser Cahl commended Montenegro for understanding the importance of values cherished by NATO member-states. Although Montenegro is dealing with a wide range of challenges on its path towards NATO, it is successfully communicating the importance of democratic integration processes among the entire Western Balkans, Adviser Cahl emphasised.
Minister Pejanović-Đurišić also informed Adviser Wallander about the activities Montenegro is implementing towards the upcoming NATO ministerial meeting in December, stressing that the country is committed to implementing the required reforms even after getting the expected membership invitation.
Adviser Wallander commended the quality of reforms Montenegro has implemented so far, particularly the Government’s overall commitment to achieving positive results important not only for the stability and safety of the region, but the whole of Europe as well.
The meetings were also attended by the Ambassador of Montenegro to the USA Srđan Darmanović, Chief of Cabinet at the Ministry of Defence Dubravka Lalović and Defence Attaché of Montenegro to the USA Velibor Bakrač.
