Podgorica, Montenegro (4 October 2016) — Deputy Prime Minister Azra Jasavić met with the Head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro Aivo Orav. DPM Jasavić congratulated Mr Orava on his appointment and thanked him for the visit. „The path of Montenegro to the European Union is impossible to imagine without the strong EU support to our country. European Union, as a powerful engine, launches a process of the Montenegrin society’s adjustment to the European standards, which represents the interest of Montenegrin citizens,“ DPM Jasavić said. Montenegro is steadily progressing on the road to EU membership, and the result of four years of negotiations are 24 open and two temporarily closed chapters. „Montenegro needs a strong depoliticised and professionalised institutions. This can be achieved only if Montenegro is successful through the Euro-Atlantic integration, which is fortunately the majority preference of Montenegro,“ DPM Jasavić stressed.

DPM Jasavić pointed out that for the first time, after 27 years, the opposition in Montenegro got the opportunity to participate in the work of the Government and, therefore, to control the electoral process. She also stressed the importance of the constitutional reforms, as well as the significance of the Supreme State Prosecutor and the Chief Special Prosecutor elections. „Without the rule of law there is no legal security, and without the legal security there is no economic recovery,“ DPM Jasavić stated. She underlined that much has been done on foreign policy, and that the foreign policy course of Montenegro is good, but changes are needed on the internal level, especially in the field of economics and the application of the law.
