Podgorica, Montenegro (27 February 2015) – Montenegro and the USA have a long term history of excellent bilateral relations and good the partnership between the countries will be continued through the US active support for Montenegro’s efforts in pursuing its foreign policy priorities, the US Ambassador to Montenegro Margaret Ann Uyehara told Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Duško Marković earlier today.
The two officials agreed that following year is particularly important for both countries and that the cooperation in the fields of common interest, particularly in terms of security, should be continued.
DPM Marković informed Ambassador Uyehara about Montenegro’s intensive activities towards adopting judiciary-related legislation and institutional measures which will help achieve tangible results in the fight against corruption and organised crime.
The two officials also discussed the criminalisation of foreign fighters’ participation in battlefields. Ambassador Uyehara commended Montenegro’s prompt activities undertaken on amending the Criminal Code, voicing her expectation that the legal document will be adopted as quickly as possible in the Parliament of Montenegro.
