Brussels, Belgium (17 October 2014) – Montenegro’s Fifth Annual National Programme (ANP) was officially presented in the NATO headquarters in Brussels at the meeting between Montenegro and member states of the Alliance. The fifth ANP represents a new cycle of the Membership Action Plan including the period of intensified and focused dialogue which will result by NATO’s decision whether to send Montenegro the membership invitation by the end of 2015.
NATO member states commended Montenegro’s overall progress and voiced their expectation that Montenegro and NATO will strengthen cooperation at all levels. The fifth ANP is a high-quality document which clearly indicates the priorities that should be in the focus during the intensified and focused dialogue, the meeting emphasised.
It was underlined that the decision on sending an invitation to Montenegro by the end of 2015 depends on the country’s commitment to continue implementing reforms in four key fields, namely the rule of law, security sector, defence and raising the level of the public support.
In that regard, the member states commended Montenegro’s active role in strengthening good and friendly relations in the region and taking part in the ISAF Mission, which indicates that Montenegro is a credible partner of NATO in strengthening security at the global level.
