Hungary’s Representative to NATO Sztáray: We expect Montenegro to get NATO membership invitation by the end of this year

    Podgorica, Montenegro (28 January 2014) – Prime Minister Milo Đukanović hosted yesterday Permanent Representative of Hungary to NATO Peter Sztáray, to discuss Montenegro’s Euro-Atlantic accession process.

    Ambassador Sztáray underlined that NATO membership invitation to Montenegro is not a technical, but a strategic issue which represents a clear message to the entire region. He stressed that Montenegro has successfully implemented required reforms bringing it very close to become a full – fledged member of the Alliance. As NATO contact country for Montenegro, Hungary will continue supporting Montenegro’s Euro – Atlantic path, Ambassador Sztáray pointed out.

    PM Đukanović expressed his gratitude towards continuing support of Hungary to Montenegro, stressing that the two countries cherish very good bilateral relations. Montenegro’s membership to NATO is a strategic priority and the Government is fully committed to the implementation of needed requirements.

    He also emphasised that the accession process is a response to challenges the region is dealing with and guarantee for the stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans.
