Close judicial cooperation between the countries of the region, with adequate regional police cooperation, is the key to success in the fight against organized crime, it was estimated at the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin with Minister of Justice of the Republic of Serbia Nela Kuburović.

DPM Pažin and Minister Kuburović talked today in Podgorica about the possibilities for enhancing cooperation in the process of accession to the European Union, strengthening the capacities of the judiciary and jointly combating the most serious forms of crime.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed the full readiness of Montenegro to share with Serbia all the expertise and experience gained during the negotiating process in the field of the rule of law. It was pointed out that the cooperation between the two ministries in the field of European integration and the exchange of experiences in the implementation of strategic documents and laws is of great importance for further dynamic progress of both countries in the process of accession to the European Union. He also thanked Minister Kuburović for Serbia’s readiness to provide an information system to Montenegro whose implementation would significantly improve the work of the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.

DPM Pažin was particularly interested in the actions of the competent authorities of the Republic of Serbia in the cases of persons who are being sought by Montenegro through international Interpol warrants. He emphasised the importance of close regional cooperation in order to prevent fugitives from justice from finding shelter in the countries of the region. In this regard, the importance of the national offices of Interpol is particularly appreciated, since the mechanisms of international legal assistance are activated, through the ministries of justice, only after the arrest of persons sought by international arrest warrants.
