PM Đukanović meets SAPC delegation: Montenegro achieves steady progress towards EU, NATO accession

    Podgorica, Montenegro (8 April 2015) — Prime Minister Milo Đukanović meet earlier today with the delegation of the EU Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.

    “The European Union appreciates Montenegro’s role in promoting European values ​​and contributing to stability in the region,” Co-chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee Aneliz Dods pointed out, also welcoming the country’s progress towards EU membership.

    Prime Minister Đukanović thanked the European Parliament for the support provided to Montenegro on its path towards the EU and welcomed its open door policy for the Western Balkans.

    “Integration i8s a key of economic development of the region, but also of the stability of the Western Balkans and the European area as a whole,” he underlined.

    The Prime Minister also referred to the good dynamics of the negotiation process and the steady progress in the implementation of overall social reforms. In that context, he stressed the importance of economic development of Montenegro and the region as a basis for further progress of the overall society.

    Prime Minister Đukanović and representatives of the Parliamentary Committee agreed on the assessment of the progress made in the ​​rule of law and stressed the need to further improve the area which is of high significance for democratic processes in the Montenegrin society. The meeting also addressed possibilities for enhancing educational process, especially through the mobility of young people in the region and the countries of the European Union.

    Prime Minister Đukanović and the SAPC delegation also discussed the current political and economic situation in Montenegro, emphasising that, when it comes to EU and NATO integration, the country is on the right track.
