Bijelo Polje, Montenegro (15 May 2018) — Prime Minister Duško Marković said earlier today in Bijelo Polje at the signing of the contract for the construction of two chairlifts worth EUR 12 million that these projects and this impressive investment will change Bijelo Polje, this region and Montenegro, and that the Government will do it best to ensure that the contract is executed within the set deadlines.

The Prime Minister recalled that at the beginning of the mandate he announced the Government’s special commitment to the northern region, implying not only economic commitments, but also concrete actions.

“You see that we deliver on our promises,” the Prime Minister noted.

PM Marković said that the Government will not allow the natural resources of Bijelo Polje and the entire northern region to be neglected, but that it aims to make the best use of the potental, which accounts for 55% of the potential of Montenegro, for the benefit of the region and Montenegro.

“At the same time, we signed today a contract on the design and layout of the chairlift at Cmiljača. It is also a worthy project, one of the most valuable ones after the Bar-Boljare motorway, implemented by the Montenegrin Government when it comes to winter tourism and the development of the north,” the Prime Minister stressed, adding that works on the Ravna Rijeka – Jasikovac – Cmiljača road are under way. I believe that by 2020 we will be able to use this area here, as well as the Bjelasica mountain, for economic and development purposes, that they will create thousands of jobs and that we will finally live a better life in this region,” said Prime Minister Marković.

The contract signed today with the renowned Italian company Leitner includes the construction of a EUR 4 million worth chairlift from Podvrh to Đalović Cave and a EUR 8 million worth 6-seater chairlift at the location of Cmiljača. Under the contract, the deadline for putting the chairlifts into operation is 18 months – November 2019.

Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulović told the press that the Italian Leitner is the equipment manufacturer and chief engineer of the system, but that the contract also involves several Montenegrin companies dealing with the design and execution of works, led by New Volvox.

“There are many Montenegrin companies and the vast majority of the money will stay in Montenegro,” said Minister Radulović.
