Podgorica, Montenegro (10 April 2018) — Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković told teachers, employees and graduates of Medresa “Mehmed Fatih” from Tuzi that the Government has been designing an education system for years, which will enable every student to acquire knowledge necessary for success in a professional career. He added that there is no better preparation for life in multi-confessional Montenegro than education that represents the best guarantee of respect for each other.

“Quality education is one of the most important factors in the overall progress of our society, democratic and economic. For years, the Government has been designing an educational system that will enable each pupil and student to acquire knowledge necessary for success in a professional career. But we do not rely solely on the task of personal affirmation of an individual – but we want the knowledge and reach of our young people to be a strong support for Montenegrin society in the time ahead. The developed awareness of the multi-confessional character of Montenegro is an advantage for getting to know its culture, history and tradition. There is no better preparation for life in a society with a rich variety of quality education, which is also the best guarantee of respecting the other and the different in one’s community,” the Prime Minister said at a ceremony organised at the Cultural and Information Centre “Budo Tomović” on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Medresa and the delivery of diplomas to the group of 63 graduated students from Medresa.

Speaking about this educational institution, the Prime Minister said that it represents a confirmation that Montenegro is a state of a democracy and a modern education system, adding that less than a month ago, the Government has agreed to finance Medresa in the amount of half a million euros for 2018.

The Prime Minister recalled that the tradition of good relations between Montenegro and the Islamic Confession dates back to the 19th century, that it was confirmed by the Constitution of the Principality of Montenegro from 1905 and that Montenegro, as a rare example in the region and beyond, signed in 2012 an Agreement on the regulation of relations of common interest with the Islamic Community in Montenegro.

At the end of his address, Prime Minister Duško Marković told the graduates of Medresa that their education enabled by the State, as well as the knowledge passed on by professors, will give them wisdom to preserve and promote these values.
