Podgorica, Montenegro (13 February 2017) – Prime Minister Duško Marković said today at the US Chamber of Commerce that the current business environment in Montenegro needs to be improved in order to raise the standard of living and that the criticisms and suggestions on the business environment are less severe compared to the real situation.
He said the key commitments of the Government are strengthening the rule of law and strengthening institutions in general.
“The next thing the Government will be focused on is education system. In the education system we want reforms that will ensure that young people are prepared for the labour market. The third is to improve the infrastructure. Without that, there are no conditions for resources valorisation and the business environment cannot be improved. Infrastructure needs to be linked with our environment,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Marković said that the ratings in the Report on the business environment in Montenegro for the past two years, which was presented today, are less severe than he thinks.
“The business environment is not satisfactory. You said that discreetly. It is significantly lower than you say,” PM Marković stated, adding that he was glad that the business community sees Montenegro as a country with a perspective.
The Government, in turn, provided the level of political stability that is conducive to business, but the situation needs to be improved – the Prime Minister said, adding that in this sense, local and state administration must be available every day for every investor.
Speaking of tax policy, Prime Minister Marković said that Montenegrin tax policy is stimulating to business and sets an example in the region.
“Government’s strong and courageous message is that we have not increased taxes. I believe that by the end of the year it will show good results,” PM Marković noted and added that there will be no increase in taxes and contributions.
