Podgorica, Montenegro (17 October 2015) – Earlier tonight, at three locations in Podgorica, three groups of several hundred people attempted to break through the police cordons with an intention to enter the Parliament building. They were throwing stones, bottles and other objects at police officers. At one of these locations, near the Parliament at the crossing of Sloboda St and St Peter of Cetinje Blvd, the persons fired tear gas on police officers.
Rapid and effective intervention of the police prevented the people from entering the Parliament building. Police officers, acting according to the law, used the coercion means, namely physical force, police batons, and tear gas.
Four police officers were injured and 15 people were detained in the incidents.
Besides the attempts to break police cordons, a number of people broke windows of a few shops in the Sloboda Street.
