In less than 24 hours, a fourth earthquake was registered in the vicinity of the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. After registering two earthquakes yesterday afternoon, the Seismological Institute of Montenegro (SIM) recorded the third, milder one, around 1:58 o’clock tonight, with the epicenter some nine kilometers northeast of Podhum. Now news arrived of the fourth earthquake. Experts say there’s nothing to worry about.
“The strength of this earthquake in the epicenter was 3.9 degrees in Richter scale, which corresponds to the epicentral intensity of IV-V degrees MCS”, said the SIM.
The focus of the earthquake was located at a depth of 18 kilometers.
Seismological Institute of Montenegro on July 7th 2015, at 11 AM and 1 minute registered an earthquake of milder magnitude with epicenter 13 km south-east of Podgorica. The strength of the earthquake at the center amounted to 3.0 units of Richter scale, which corresponds to the epicentral intensity of IV degrees of the Mercalli scale (MCS). The center of the earthquake was located at a depth of 18 km.
Although earthquakes are short in duration, they create unease among citizens. However, as the director of the SIM, Branislav Glavatovic, said there is no room for panic or fear.
“… the zone in which these events took place is known for earthquakes throughout history. It is an entire tectonic line stretching right from Albania, through Podgorica and Danilovgrad, towards Bosnia”, explained Glavatovic stressing there is no reason for panic.
