Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Luksic received a farewell visit from the Ambassador of Greece in Montenegro Ilias Fotopoulos.
Greek Ambassador said that his country strongly supports European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro, which is a leader in these processes in the region.
He particularly emphasized the importance of further integration process of the region as well as the need for economic support for countries of the Western Balkans to strengthen stability and prosperity.
“The Prime Minister Djukanovic expressed his satisfaction with the commitment of Greece to European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the Western Balkans. In this context he reminded of the importance of expert support of Greece to negotiations of Montenegro with the European Union, as well as the contribution of that country during Montenegro’s way to NATO membership. Interlocutors agreed that the two countries have a high level of bilateral cooperation and stressed the need for further strengthening economic relations between Montenegro and Greece”, it was said from the office of the Prime Minister.
Fotopoulos also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Luksic today. On this occasion, Fotopoulos praised the progress that Montenegro has made in the integration process and announced further support of Greece in this regard. In this context, the ambassador expressed his expectation that Montenegro will receive an invitation for membership in NATO until the end of the year.
“Luksic expressed satisfaction with the traditionally friendly relations and better cooperation between the two countries, and thanked the Ambassador Fotopoulos for his personal contribution to their improvement. He thanked for the continuous support of Greece in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro and stressed the importance of further support in this way”, it was said in the statement from Luksic’s cabinet.
