Cooperation and coordinated actions against terrorism and radical extremism

In the time when Europe and the world face growing terrorism and radical extremism, it is of great importance to keep solidarity and coordinate actions in order to increase security, and keep peace and stability, it was said from Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Common Foreign and Security Policy and on Common Security and Defence Policy in Bratislava.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing ways to confront terrorism and prevent radicalism. EU officials and ministers took part, as well as officials of candidate countries.

Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, and Miroslav Lajčak, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia, invited Aleksandar Andrija Pejović to represent Montenegro at the Conference.

Ambassador Pejović welcomed new strategy of EU in foreign and security policies that pays special attention to terrorism fight and prevention of violent radicalism.

He relayed Montenegro’s full dedication to fight against terrorism and respect for basic human values that EU is based on, primarily democracy, safety and human rights. He said that Montenegro will reach its goals from Chapter 24 – Justice, freedom and safety.

“We passed a Strategy to prevent and suppression of terrorism, money laundering and terrorism funding 2015-2018 and Strategy for fight against violent extremism for 2016-2018, we passed the Law on amendments to Crime regulation that is in accordance with UN Resolution on foreign fighters and entails prison sentences for Montenegrin citizens who took part in fights internationally”, Pejović said.

Pejović said there are many bilateral meetings planned with EU officials, so he could introduce them with Montenegro’s progress in EU integration.

Meetings are a chance to exchange opinion on bilateral technical support.

Ambassador Pejović’s interlocutors congratulated on Montenegro’s accomplishment and said that it can count on continued support in accomplishing the rest of its task on the path to EU.
