Nova Party Vice President and the DF’s official Slaven Radunovic, said that the issue on setting up a monument to the Duke Mirko Petrovic on the Independence Square, should be decided by citizens of Podgorica on a referendum. He believes that local elections next year are an ideal opportunity for a referendum.

He announced that he would advocate that the government, which the DF will take part in, whether at the local or state level, should organize the referendum on any issue that creates public confusion and does not require urgency in decision-making.

“The referendum is a civilization act that should be used as often as possible. Countries whose democratic tradition we often mention, use every appropriate opportunity to review citizen attitudes on important issues and thus ensure that the state, as an organization, serves the public interest. Setting up the monument in the center of Podgorica is part of the approach that such disagreements, in general, should be resolved through wider consultation with citizens, “Radunovic said.
