The European Union (EU) expects Montenegro to ensure that each person fully enjoy their rights, not only on paper but in practice. Year 2015 must be the year of the results, said the Head of EU Delegation in Podgorica, Mitja Drobnic.
At the conference “Let’s Speed up Human Rights”, organized by the Center for Civic Education (CCE), he said that human rights are an inseparable part of the law, and that their effective protection is at the heart of European integration.
“Montenegro, during the EU accession process, must provide the appropriate legal instruments that will guarantee to each person to fully enjoy their rights”, Drobnic said.
It is important, he added, to harmonize national legislation with European acquis in the field of human rights, but it is even more important that these legislative reforms have concrete results on the ground.
“The EU expects from Montenegro to ensure that each person fully enjoy their rights, not only on paper but in practice, and 2015 must be the year with the results”, said Drobnic.
He stressed that it safe society is crucial in promoting human rights and democratic reforms.
“That’s why we strongly support the Montenegrin NGO-s in their efforts to monitor the realization of human rights. We sincerely hope that this project will speed up the human rights situation in Montenegro, contribute to a better media coverage of these issues and, most importantly, raising awareness of citizens about their rights”, Drobnic concluded.
