In his Christmas Message the Ecumenical Patriarch and Archbishop of Constantinople 75years old Bartholomew, is stressing the fact that Christ was a refugee himself and that Christians must prove their good will by helping refugees not only in theory, but with specific actions.

“What is happening is a disgrace for the human race” says Bartholomew. “Unfortunately, in our era, many people think like Herod, the executor of infants back then, are lawless and ruthless, and exterminate their fellow humans by a variety of ways. The ever surging wave of refugees increases our responsibility. Therefore practical solidarity is needed, since the Son of God himself came into the world not as a king, not as a ruler, not as a tyrant, not as a rich, but was born as every naked and defenseless infant, like the children of the refugees. Now land and sea take the blood of those innocent creatures. We must take care of the persecuted and displaced fellow men, regardless of race, gender and religion”.
