A stronger EU presence in the Western Balkans and the undisputed European perspective for the countries of the region are crucial to the preservation of peace and stability – it was said at a meeting of Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic and President of Hungary Janos Ader.

At the meeting during the official visit of Prime Minister Markovic to Hungary, it was noted that the security situation in the Balkans worsened due to the strengthening of nationalist political forces that want to jeopardize the region’s European perspective.

“The best answer to that, in the opinion of the Prime Minister of Montenegro, is the active integration policy by both the EU and NATO and promoting dialogue so that the countries in the region recognize its interest in integration processes. It was also emphasized that the European funds should be even more available in order to strengthen the economies of the countries of the region and valorize resources “, a Government statement said.

Briefing on the progress of European integration, Marković says that the current problems which EU faces will not discourage Montenegro, and that it is committed to fulfilling its obligations under the European agenda. The European Union, he commented, is the best framework for our country and its interests.

“Noting that the process of ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of Montenegro to NATO is in the final stage, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that the whole process will be completed until May so that Montenegro can take part at the Summit of the Alliance as a full-fledged member,” the statement said.
