ForbesLife Lists Montenegro as Must-See Destination

Montenegro is among the top three must-see places to visit in 2015, according to the lifestyle wing of the prestigious international business magazine, Forbes.

“Montenegro is poised to become a world-class luxury travel destination thanks to its 180-mile-plus coastline and rugged interior dotted with river canyons, glacial lakes and two UNESCO World Heritage Sites,” ForbesLife reported.

Travel contributor Alexandra Krikman described the country as an idyllic place to visit that was long overshadowed by Croatia, its larger and better known neighbour on the Adriatic.

Already home to the luxurious Aman Sveti Stefan resort, which hosted the wedding of tennis star Novak Djokovic in July, the country is luring other top-tier operators, including the One&Only chain, which will open its first European property on Tivat Bay in 2016.

On the UNESCO-protected Bay of Kotor, Porto Montenegro – whose chief investor is Barrick Gold founder Peter Munk – is vying to become Europe’s leading marina, with berths up to 180 metres to accommodate superyachts.

ForbesLife says tax rates and substantial discounts on fuel compared to countries in the EU is another incentive that is to lure uber-wealthy mariners.

The top three list also features Namibia and Lithuania as other “largely undiscovered destinations”.

The magazine cited a recent report by the World Tourism Organization, the tourism agency of the United Nations, which said that international tourism hit a new record in 2014, with over 1.1 billion travelers traversing the globe.
