Good communication between the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the State Election Commission (DIK) is necessary in the preparation for the forthcoming elections, the head of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Montenegro, ambassador Janina Hrebickova stated.
She has met today with interior minister Goran Danilovic.
“OSCE Mission to Montenegro will continue to provide strong support to MUP and DIK in the coordination and planning of fair and free elections”, it was said in a statement after the meeting.
According to the ministry’s statement, the main topic of the discussion was MUP and DIK’s jurisdiction in the coming period of preparation for the elections and the way of meeting commitments of the two institutions.
Danilovic presented the planned pilot project that would include improvised voting in cities in the north, in order for the entire election and voting process to be checked on time.
According to Danilovic, in this way two months before the election, possible difficulties in the implementation of Election Day would be identified and the citizens would develop trust in the process after they become familiar with it.
Hrebickova said that good communication between the ministry and the commission, as two key institutions in preparation for the elections, was necessary, adding that the role of NGOs in the whole process was also very important.
“Hrebickova also presented future OSCE activities in Montenegro, noting that the organisation is to provide technical assistance and mentoring to our country, primarily in terms of security and exercising the rights and freedoms of citizens”, it was said in the statement.
