Special Prosecutor’s Office in a short period achieved outstanding results, said US Ambassador in Podgorica, Margaret Uyehara and congratulated Montenegro on the results achieved.
The US Embassy, in cooperation with the Judiciary Training Centre and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, organized a conference in Budva on integrated investigations and new trends in organized crime and corruption.
Ms. Uyehara said that support for the rule of law and judicial reforms, in particular support for the fight against organized crime and corruption in Montenegro remains one of the priorities of the United States.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate Montenegro on the achieved results and reiterate US commitment to support further reforms. The new Special Prosecutor’s Office has already achieved significant results in short term since it works,” she said.
Ms. Uyehara has repeated the words of the Supreme Prosecutor Ivica Stankovic, that lower level prosecutors also need to be more involved in this demanding fight.
“We are aware that the strengthening and equipping prosecutors with necessary tools to combat this phenomenon is of great importance. We support integrated investigation involving not only the prosecution, but also the tax administration, customs, a new Agency for Prevention of Corruption and all parts of society, ” said Ms. Uyehara.
