In the period 2001–2013, Montenegro received $281m aid from the US government. Out of that sum, $243.3m was provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), said deputy prime minister Dusko Markovic at the meeting with the USAID assistant administrator for Europe and Eurasia Thomas Melia.

The two officials talked about the support that USAID provided to Montenegro during 12 years, thanks to which a number of reforms in Montenegrin society have been successfully implemented.

“Markovic thanked for the agency’s support in various fields, pointing out the importance of the rule of law, the most important challenge and the key to the success of the state and society in general”, the government stated.

The officials also discussed the possibilities of further strengthening of cooperation in many areas, in the context of regional projects implemented by USAID in neighbouring countries.
