Montenegro is striving for European values and consistently affirm membership in the European Union as foreign policy priorities and enlargement policy is a key factor of stability in the Western Balkans, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said.
At the meeting of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs , Djukanovic said that the Europeanisation of the Western Balkans has a far greater significance for the EU than it is currently presumed in Brussels.
“So we should continue to promote the Berlin process that has given new hope to the region. Enlargement is a key factor of stability in the Western Balkans,” Djukanovic said.
He said that membership in NATO represents an important inspiration for Montenegro and its path in European integration, “which we believe will have a positive impact on the whole region.”
“By opening of the 24 negotiating chapters, creating a legal framework for the fight against organized crime and corruption we are working on further social reforms,” the prime minister said.
He added that the executive authority is specially devoted to the rule of law.
“That’s why chapters 23 and 24 are important for us. We have made progress in the legislative part by adopting more than 60 laws, after which the key institutions Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Special Prosecutor’s Office were formed.”
According to djukanovic the government is determined to do everything in order to fulfill temporary measures in those two chapters.
