Poland, dedicated to open-door policy, have decided to realize an ambitious goal and to be among the most effective allies in the process of ratification of membership of Montenegro and complete the process without delay, well before the end of the year, said Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski.

He points out that Montenegrin determination to take responsibility and obligations arising from membership in NATO was a good decision, adding that he thinks that between Russia and Montenegro will be no new tensions.

“Long-term strategy of NATO, the EU and its partners towards Russia should be based on our values and interests. I believe that the key condition for future relations with Moscow should be practical – respect for the sovereignty of third countries and their choices, the result of the recognition of the universal principles of international law, ” Waszczykowski said in an interview with daily ‘’Pobjeda’’.

He said that Montenegro, as well as Poland, have decided to be part of Euro-Atlantic integration processes.

“Such sovereign decisions must be accepted and respected by Russia. Polish experience clearly shows that there is no negative correlation between membership in NATO and the EU, and relations with Russia.

The current tensions in Europe, he claims, are not caused nor by NATO, or Poland.

“Russia has violated international order based on rules, including the rule breaches the territorial integrity of its” fraternal Orthodox “Ukraine. In such difficult times, it is better to be an integral part of the strongest political-military alliances than to act alone. NATO does not seek confrontation and does not pose a threat to Russia. “Waszczykowski said.
