High EU Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, and Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, met in Brussels and talked about the political dialogue between the authorities and the opposition in Montenegro, and agreed that the process of European integration is a shared responsibility of all political forces in the country that requires sustained efforts, including in the field of rule of law.
Mogherini and Djukanovic discussed not only the political situation in the country, but also developments in the security situation in the region.
“Focusing on foreign policy, Mogherini welcomed Montenegro’s role as a reliable partner for the European Union”, announced the EU Delegation to Montenegro.
She also pointed out that EU values the total harmonization of Montenegrin policy with all the foreign policy positions of the European Union, and encouraged the Prime Minister to continue with these efforts.
“Montenegro’s accession to NATO will further contribute to the stability of the region”, he said.
During their meeting, Mogherini and Djukanovic mentioned parliamentary elections to be held later this year. Prime Minister Djukanovic spoke about the steps taken to ensure the organization of credible elections in accordance with the regulatory framework from 2014, closely monitored by the EU.
