For Albanians, Montenegro is not only a neighboring country but also friendly, with which official Tirana share common goals and values, said the president of Albania Bujar Nishani today in Cetinje.
At the start of the official visit to Montenegro, Nishani today met with Montenegrin counterpart Filip Vujanovic. Both presidents stressed that the two countries have no open issues.
Vujanovic said that Nishani’s visit to Montenegro is seen as confirmation of a close, friendly and good neighborly relations.
“There are no open issues between the two countries and there is an open space for cooperation in many fields, especially in economics. We discussed our cooperation in the field of integration processes. Montenegro, which is in the process of accession to the European Union, is ready to share its experiences with Albania. On the other hand, Albania supports NATO integration of Montenegro, which is particularly important for us, because Albania is a member of NATO and our neighbor”, said Vujanovic.
The topic of presidential talks was also a cooperation in the field of infrastructure. It was announced that the road Plav-Podgorica, which partially passes through the Albanian territory, will be completed by the end of 2016.
“Both countries should support two major projects in regional terms, the Adriatic-Ionian route and the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline. In the field of transport infrastructure, we particularily emphasized the main road between Plav and Podgorica, which should be completed by the end of 2016. That road would cut traffic distance between Plav and Podgorica to 120 kilometers”, said Vujanovic.
Nishani said that there is a good basis for further development between the two countries.
“For us Albanians, Montenegro is not only a neighboring country but also friendly, with which we share common goals and values. On behalf of all Albanians, I expressed gratitude for the assistance of Montenegro during the floods that hit the south of Albania”, said Nishani.
He praised Montenegro’s path when it comes to integration into the European Union, saying that in that sense Montenegro is a positive example.
“Montenegro is a step ahead compared to Albania when it comes to EU integration and I said to President Vujanovic that the models of Croatia and Montenegro are examples that should be followed by the Balkan countries. Albania, as a NATO member, fully supports the membership of Montenegro in NATO. Membership of Montenegro in this alliance will increase stability in this region”, said Nishani.
Albanian President also commented on the status of Albanians in Montenegro.
“Albanians in Montenegro feel well represented, relying on the Constitution of Montenegro. The right of property is respected, as well as the right of education in the Albanian language and the use of national symbols”, said Nishani.
Within the framework of his visit to Montenegro, Albanian President will meet with Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic today, as well as with the President of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapic.
