Montenegro has made progress in the rule of law

Head of Unit for Montenegro in the European Commission Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and the enlargement negotiations Dirk Lange welcomed Montenegro’s progress in the rule of law and the opening of negotiation chapters.

As a reminder, the fifth meeting of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Montenegro and the European Union is held in Podgorica today.

“We have opened eight chapters in the previous period and it was made possible thanks to parallel progress in the rule of law. We look forward to the next accession conference where two more chapters will probably be opened”, said Lange.

He reminded of the importance of establishing a significant balance of results in the field of rule of law which will determine the entire pace of negotiation.

Montenegro’s chief negotiator with the European Union Aleksandar Pejovic said that we recently had the opportunity to read the report on progress, and that we have seen its findings.

“Recently we also received an invitation to join NATO. Indeed we have a lot of topics we can talk about”, Pejovic said.

That’s why, he said, he was particularly delighted that he can go through many areas and talk not only about what was done, but also about what are the further expectations in the negotiation process.

“And of course to go into next year with the process of closing The chapters”, Pejovic said.
