Montenegro PM Blames Bureaucrats for Slowdown
Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic on Thursday said bureaucrats were responsible for slower economic growth and incomplete projects, saying he will not tolerate slack public servants.
Prime Minister Djukanovic said that besides the impact of the European crisis and continent-wide recession, the country’s own administration was to blame for slower economic growth and delays in implementing priority projects.
At a cabinet session on Thursday, which discussed macroeconomic and fiscal policy for the period 2015-2018, Djukanovic said the policy document need to be rearranged to focus on institutional failures in implementing national development goals.
“It is unacceptable to tolerate irresponsibility and lack of professionalism within the public administration at either state or local level,” Djukanovic said.
This is not the first time that Djukanovic has turned on employees in the public sector. In December, he criticized the culture of some in the public administration, saying that if public servants did not want to work hard, they should stay at home and not obstract those who come to work.
“A large number of public sector employees come to work only to bother people,” Djukanovic remarked.
