European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD, plans to invest around 100 million euros in Montenegro, focusing mainly on the private sector, the head of EBRD Montenegro Office, Giulio Moreno, told press on Thursday. EBRD will also continue to support Montenegro’s energy sector. Preparations for the installation of the Krnovo wind farm near the municipality of Niksic have entered the final stage. The institution will also fund a small hydro power plant project and is also interested in funding the reconstruction of the Tivat airport.
Montenegro experienced a slight economic recovery in 2014, and the progress was especially seen in the last quarter of the year, the European Commission sais in its Winter Forecast. Positive momentum in further development in 2015 is to be created by intensifying works on two major projects – tourist resorts Porto Novi and Lustica Bay, and the start of construction of the priority section of the Bar – Boljare highway, which, according to the European Commission, can become a major driver of economic growth in the coming years.
The government appointed Vesko Garcevic, former Head of Mission of Montenegro to NATO, as new National Coordinator for NATO to coordinate interdepartmental communication and activities aimed at increasing public support for the country’s accession to the Alliance. Former National Coordinator Nebojsa Kaludjerovic was relieved of his duty due to his appointment as Ambassador to Montenegro’s Mission to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva.
