Montenegro Press Review – May 27, 2015

Montenegro pledges commitment to Euro-Atlantic future. Montenegro recalls prominent journalist’s murder. Italy backs Montenegro’s EU and NATO bid.

Montenegro will continue to implement reforms and improving military and defense capacity, in light of the expected invitation for NATO membership by the end of the year, Defense Minister Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic said. She met with the commander of NATO’s Joint Force Command in Naples, and Admiral Mark Ferguson.

Marking the 11th anniversary of the murder of a prominent journalist and owner of the daily newspaper Dan, rights group Human Rights Action said that the Montenegrin state authorities have not conducted an effective investigation that lead to indetifcation of the perpetrators.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella praised emphasised Montenegro’s “extraordinary contribution” to preserving regional peace over the years full of temptations. He addes that Montenegro is an example of how to restore independence, preserve multi-ethnic harmony, promote coexistence and tolerance, and contribute to regional cooperation. “Montenegro is successfully overcoming parts of its path towards EU and NATO accession,” Mattarela said.
