Austrian police arrest alleged drug lord Safet Kalic. Democracy to fight against Balkan nationalism. Montenegro makes significant progress in strengthening rule of law, the Bundestag’s offical says.
Alleged drug lord Safet Kalic was arrested on Monday in Austria on an international warrant issued in 2011 at the request of Montenegrin authorities and Interpol Podgorica. Montenegrin police confirmed that Kalic has been arrested after intensive and long cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and police organizations from several countries.
Nationalism is an evil that lasts a long time in Europe and the only way to fight such threats is the development of democracy and the rule of law, the speaker of the Montenegro’s parliament Ranko Krivokapic said. Asked to comment on the incident at a football match in Belgrade, Krivokapic said that everything is interdependent and connected, not only in the Balkans but everywhere. On Monday, Krivokapic met in Podgorica the president of the Serbian parilament Maja Gojkovic.
Montenegro has made significant and visible results in attainig its foreign policy goals – EU and NATO membership, particularly when it comes to the judiciary reform and strengthening the rule of law, member of the Bundestag’s Committee on International Relations and the Committee’s Rapporteur on Montenegro Peter Beyer says. On Monday he met in Podgorica Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Dusko Markovic.
