Montenegro ready for membership in NATO

Bulgaria expects that Montenegro receives invitation to join NATO by the end of this year, because it is completely ready for it, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov after a meeting with the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic in Sofia.

Borisov said that Montenegro has the fastest progress in European and Euro-Atlantic integration of all the countries of the Western Balkans.

The two prime ministers agreed that Bulgaria and Montenegro have good relations with no outstanding issues, and that further work is needed on strengthening economic cooperation.

They also discussed the possibility of introducing air-route Podgorica -Sofia.

“Montenegro will receive an invitation for membership in NATO at the end of 2015. It is important for the region, because it will secure the peace in the Balkans. I believe that Montenegro is fully prepared and it has to be supported. For all of us it is important that Balkan countries go through the European and Euro-Atlantic path as soon as possible. Montenegro made the most progress in this integration”, said Borisov.

Djukanovic said that Bulgaria is a friend of Montenegro.

“We are glad that there are friends, especially in neighboring countries. Bulgaria strongly supports us at all relevant addresses. We think that Montenegro’s accession to NATO by the end of this year is an important step in this regard”, he added.

The Prime Minister believes, despite the “open door policy” both in the Alliance and the European Union, it is important to show that the process is alive with concrete policies.

“We know that countries which are aspirants must meet certain conditions and Montenegro is ready for the rules of the game. We think that we fulfill all the conditions and we anticipate the ministerial meeting of NATO member countries at the end of this year with a lot of optimism, expecting an invitation for membership”, said Djukanovic.
