Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic said that Montenegro is recognized, in the region and the wider international community, as a reliable and credible partner, factor of stability and the most prepared and the most serious candidate for membership in the Alliance.
At the 9th Conference of the army chiefs of the Balkans, held in Budva, Vujanovic said that the successful implementation of defense reforms and security was confirmed at last year’s NATO summit in Wales, when intensified and focused dialogue with Montenegro began.
“In order to achieve the necessary NATO standards, Montenegro is committed to reform of the security sector, strengthen public support for Euro-Atlantic integration, modernization of the Army and the rule of law. I believe that our membership in NATO would contribute to stability in the region”, Vujanovic said.
President of Montenegro believes that joining the EU and NATO can not be achieved “without affirmation of good neighborly relations and the active role of Montenegro in regional cooperation”.
Safety risks of modern countries are, as he said, numerous and different “in its shape and intensity”, Vujanovic concluded.
