Moscow believes that the allegations of Russian interference in internal affairs of Montenegro are completely unfounded, and that the authorities in Podgorica stand behind the anti-Russian information campaign regarding the situation in the country, said today spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic could not resist not to join using thesis that had been widely used in the US and the EU in recent years and he accused Moscow and some of the Russian special services to have interfered in the internal affairs of the country (Montenegro),” Zakharova said at a press conference.

According to her, Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic “went a step further, tried to develop the thought, mentioning presence of special forces of Federal Security Service on Montenegrin territory.”

“All this statements have no basis at all, unfortunately, media publish them, in generally not taking in consideration Russian positions. If they actually ever mention Russian position, they do it en passant, and off course, disproportionately to the information which is published.” Zakharova said.

Katnic announced that some Russian the state bodies were involved in the preparation of coup in Montenegro, in order to prevent the country’s entry into NATO.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied Monday the allegations, adding that it is irresponsible to pronounce such serious accusations without evidence.
