The Montenegrin government expects the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office to take all measures within its legal competence and with the rapid and efficient investigation prosecute all the participants of yesterday’s attack on members of parliament.

The government has said that events in the Parliament are cause for serious concern due to aggressive and violent behavior of part of opposition MPs along with undermining the integrity of Parliament as a legislative authority.

“Not only is it a inappropriate behavior of the representatives of the citizens, but also we are witnesses of violence, attacks and threats, demonstrations of force and a series of insults including insults directed at ethnic and religious grounds to colleagues members of parliament,” it is said in the statement.

As stated, the deputies did not receive a mandate to attack colleagues and apply forces in order to achieve their political goals.

“The government condemns yesterday’s event and pointed out that Parliament is a place where we should nourish tolerance, the right to a different opinion and different political view,” it is said in a statement.

Scenes that were seen by entire Montenegrin public clearly indicate violent behavior.

“The Montenegrin government expects the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office to take all measures within its legal competence and with the rapid and efficient investigation prosecute all the participants of yesterday’s attack on members of parliament, and thus protect the integrity of the Parliament as a legislative power in Montenegro, as well as each of its member,” it is said in the statement.
