Montenegrin sky is not only significant to us, but it will also become a part of the great Euro-Atlantic sky after the country joins NATO, said the minister of defence Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic during the opening of the Aviation Operations Centre Golubovci. She added that Montenegro would be able to defend its piece of the sky along with the other members of the NATO family.

She pointed out that the new centre would significantly improve the existing capacities and technical equipment of the Air Forces of Montenegro and that it would improve the conditions of our defence system operations, since controlled and protected skies are one of the cornerstones of the defence of state sovereignty.

Pejanovic-Djurisic said that the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with partners, created the preconditions for establishing the necessary elements of a system for monitoring Montenegro’s airspace, taking into account three principles:

“The first is to establish a national system capable for independent monitoring and control of the airspace of Montenegro. The second one is to establish an integrated civilian-military national system for monitoring and controlling airspace. And finally – the principle of establishing regional and Euro-Atlantic cooperation and exchange of information, according to the standards NATO and the European Union” the minister said.

She also said that protecting the airspace was planned to be permanently resolved through the integration into the system known as the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defence System (NATINAMDS), using a model that is already implemented in some NATO countries.

During today’s opening ceremony, members of the Honour Guard wore their new uniforms for the first time. The uniforms were designed by art historian Anastasija Miranovic. Presenting the new uniforms of the Honour Guard, Pejanovic-Djurisic said the new uniform would reflect the beauty and historical identity of Montenegro in the right way.
