NATO’s initiative to grant membership to Montenegro could further increase tensions on the continent, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reports today.
Peskov pointed out that Russia treated negatively NATO’s further expansion.
He specified that “this process gave nothing from the viewpoint of European security, and on the contrary might result in further whipping up tensions on the continent”, Russian TASS news agency carried.
Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic signed the protocol on the country’s accession to the alliance in Brussels yesterday.
