Montenegrin police took down another international drug trafficking ring and seized about 300 kilograms of skunk. The drug worth about €900,000 was supposed to be smuggled to Western Europe. This is one of the largest single seizures of drugs in the territory of Montenegro recently.
The police had information that Gjon Juncaj (21) from Podgorica had been engaged in smuggling large quantities of marijuana from Albania via Montenegro to Western Europe for a long time.
They stopped him on Monday in Stari Aerodrom neighbourhood.
After he noticed police officers, Juncaj tried to escape in his “golf 3” car, but the police caught him up.
Officers searched the car and found several travel bags, PVC bags and a number of packages with the content resembling skunk.
The Police Directorate stated that there were a total of 204 large packages that contained 300kg marijuana, type skunk.
Two mobile phones and the vehicle were confiscated from Juncaj.
The competent public prosecutor at the High State Prosecution Office in Podgorica was informed about the case.
The skunk will be sent to the Forensic Centre for analysis.
This has been 670th drug seizure since the beginning of 2016.
Since the beginning of the year, police officers have seized about 1,400 kilograms of narcotics, including 1,330 kilograms of skunk.
