Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic congratulated 19th December – Capital Podgorica Day to the Mayor Slavoljub Stijepović, President of the Municipal Assembly Djordjije Suhik, councilors and other participants of the formal sessions and to all citizens of Podgorica.
“Citizens of Podgorica celebrate this holiday in the year of the great jubilee – 70 anniversary of the liberation, which is an opportunity for all of us to express our gratitude to those who fought in the war helping us to preserve national identity and state the name of Montenegro. Thanks to that great accomplishment as well as the achievements of the generations that have contributed to the development of Montenegro as equal republic of the Yugoslav federation, the referendum on the May 21 was possible. Eight years ago on 21 of May, we renewed the independence and once again provided international recognition. Today Podgorica with the face of the European city, recognized for its multiethnic and multicultural harmony, is the most representative expression of modern Montenegro, a country that is a factor of stability in the region, which is constantly advancing in the negotiation process with the EU, expecting soon to be called for membership in NATO, ” President of the Government said.
Djukanovic reminded that these major strategic objectives were selected primarily due to the higher standards , safer and better quality of life for our citizens, the stability of the country and create conditions for building strong institutions of a free society, tailored to modern European civilization.
