Prices of fuel, alcohol, tobacco and coffee to be higher

The Montenegrin Government plans to introduce a dedicated tax on the retail price of fuel in the amount of 0.5 cents per liter, with the aim of financing the cost of construction of priority sections of the highway Bar-Boljare. It is planned to increase the excise on alcohol, soft drinks and cigarettes.

The introduction of fees is part of the economic reforms of the state in the period from 2015 to 2017, which were adopted at the last session of the Government, and it will increase, according to official estimates, the budget revenues to nine million.

In addition to the introduction of taxes on fuel, the government will increase the excise tax on alcohol, carbonated beverages, tobacco and tobacco products, because of debt service for the construction of priority sections of the highway.

The increase in excise and changes of necessary laws will be followed in the second half of this year.

“In accordance with the Government Program for this year, amendments to the Law on Excise Taxes are planned for the second quarter of 2015. In order to further harmonization of excise policy with EU legislation, reviewing of this law shall gradually increase excise rate for excise goods, which will be proposed to the Government after the analysis of their impact on the budget and business environment”, it was stated from the Ministry of Finance.
