Using sophisticated techniques Moscow seeks to instrumentalize political forces in Montenegro which aim is to destabilize the country – assessed the European MP Ivan Jakovcic.

Jakovcic, who is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Parliament, in an interview with the Pobjeda said that the interference of Russia in the internal affairs of Montenegro is not new, but it is, as he points out, a misconduct.

In the opinion of Croatian MEP, such engagement of Russia in Montenegro reflects the aspirations of the official Moscow to influence the relations throughout the Western Balkans.

“There are extremely serious and clear indications of direct involvement of Russia in political relations in Montenegro, especially on election day on 16 October. Russian interference in the internal affairs of Montenegro is not news, but is unacceptable.

Using sophisticated techniques Moscow seeks to instrumentalize political forces in Montenegro that aim to destabilize the country. It is just not good for citizens of Montenegro. Obviously, such involvement of Russia in Montenegro reflects the aspirations of the official Moscow that affect relations throughout the Western Balkans. Russia has played a very positive role in Syria, but what it does to us is unacceptable,” said Jakovcic.

He said that Russia would try to strengthen its strategic influence in southeastern Europe.
