MPs did not adopt the proposal of the Socialist People’s Party (SNP) to discuss the resolution on holding a national referendum on Montenegro’s membership in NATO at the new parliamentary session.

31 MPs supported the resolution, 37 were against it, whereas nine MPs abstained.

SNP leader Srdjan Milic earlier called on all caucuses to vote for including the resolution in the agenda, in order to open a comprehensive debate that would result in adopting the document.

As SNP stated, the resolution would not deal with the way people would vote on the free and fair referendum.

“Aware of the responsibilities of the moment and need to democratically resolve the situation Montenegro ended up in after receiving NATO invitation, SNP points out that the citizens should directly decide on this issue”, said Milic.
