Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić has asked the Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic to initiate the procedure for the election of a new foreign minister and announced that he would commit to his candidacy for the UN Secretary General.
At the press conference Lukšić said that he addressed the Prime Minister with a request to initiate the procedure for the election of the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, and possibly the Deputy Prime Minister.
“It is a great privilege that Montenegro has its own candidate for secretary general of the United Nations (UN) in the year when we mark ten years since the restoration of independence, ” Luksic said.
He added that he doesn’t know who will succeed him in the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs.
“I believe that the Prime Minister will come out with the proposition soon. It seems to me that it is important that this position is adequately filled, bearing in mind the obligations on the internal, but also the regional level, ” Lukšić said.
He said that for now, there are seven candidates for the Secretary General of the UN and all of them are mainly from countries belonging to the Eastern European group.
