Germany is strongly supporting the accession of Montenegro to NATO, and Berlin will continue to strengthen overall relations with Montenegro, on the basis of existing, branched cooperation, said the leaving ambassadress, Gudrun Steinacker, at a meeting with Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic.
Djukanovic received her in a farewell visit, during which he thanked Mrs. Steinacker for successful cooperation during her term of office in Montenegro, expressing satisfaction with the development of overall relations with Germany, both in terms of frequent political dialogue and when it comes to the support that the German government provides to Montenegro’s accession to NATO and the accession negotiations for membership in the EU.
“In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans and stressed that it is of paramount importance that Germany is committed to further progress in the region”, a statement from the government said.
Ambassador Steinacker, with words of gratitude for the support and cooperation, particularly stressed the importance of youth exchange, which is a prerequisite for a peaceful and fruitful future of the region.
