Support of the United States for obtaining an invitation to join NATO, given by US Vice President Joe Biden to Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, is a huge step for Montenegro because it is a stance of the most powerful member of the Alliance.
Hungarian Ambassador Christian Posa said that ahead of the last Summit in Wales there were no such clear statements from the White House.
Croatian Ambassador Ivana Sutlic-Peric said that the clear message of the United States, which provides additional optimism, is great news for Montenegro and Croatia, which openly support the membership of Montenegro in NATO.
“The security and stability of our neighbors is stability and security of Croatia itself”, she said.
The ambassadors think that US support for Montenegro will have considerable echo among the countries that might still be indecisive regarding the issue of membership. They announced a number of appointments, meetings and discussions with NATO allies to lobby for our country to receive an invitation.
