Montenegrin Accession Protocol to NATO has been presented in the British Parliament on June 29th. I hope that the Protocol will be successfully ratified by fall, said Permanent Representative of Britain to NATO, Adam Thomson, speaking to Pobjeda.

He said that the general expectation is that all member states will ratify the Protocol by middle of 2017.

“Ever since Montenegro has signed the Protocol on May 19th in Brussels, it has been taking part in meetings, including NATO Summit, as an observer. NATO members need to ratify the Protocol now and we expect that to happen by middle of 2017”, Thomson said.

He said that the United Kingdom is supportive of Montenegro.

“UK will continue to support Montenegro’s NATO membership. We believe that it will give strength to Western Balkan and new incentive for EU integration in the region”, Thomson said.

He said that NATO invitation is a recognition for all the hard work and effort of Montenegro.

“It is a recognition for reforms and difficult political decision that have been brought. On the other hand, the membership is not by default. Montenegro will face great expectations and I believe it will be good for Montenegro, region and the whole Europe”, Thomson said.

He said that Montenegro’s NATO membership will have a positive influence on the whole region.

“It is a signal that NATO doors remain open to those who wish to progress. I am certain that Montenegro will not be the last country to join the Alliance”, Thomson said.
