Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic said that there is no doubt that the Western Balkans region would continue on the path of full integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
At the Vienna Economic Forum that is being held in Tirana, he said it was important “for all our countries, but also Europe and its future prestige and stability of the Euro-Atlantic region”.
“This answer to the dilemmas that are still very much recognized in the political dialogue on European soil, related to the enlargement fatigue. This dilemma must not be a current issue. Europe must achieve full stability above all, full focus on development and utilize all its potential in order to be globally competitive , ” Djukanovic said.
Djukanovic considers stability as a key issue in the region. In this regard, he said that the recent incident in Macedonia showed that this issue should be given more attention.
“It took a long time to make the first step between Belgrade and Pristina, and thanks to the courage and visionary of Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Aleksandar Vucic, and Hashim Thaci and Isa Mustafa, the process has started and is going in the right direction. It is very important to provide further dynamics of this process, “he added.
The instability of the region, he says, has been generated by centuries of economic and democratic lagging behind European development.
Djukanovic said it is necessary to overcome the deep gap in terms of economic growth between the region and the EU. According to him, none of the countries of the Western Balkans is able to solve the problems by itself.
