On the occasion of the 4th of July – Independence Day of the United States, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic sent formal congratulations to US President Barack Obama, in which he stressed he believes mutual partnership will help Montenegro to fulfill the remaining commitments from the Euro-Atlantic agenda, and also help the United States and other partner countries to easier make the decision to call Montenegro for membership in the Alliance.
“Freedom and independence won by US 239 years ago, determined the course of the modern history of mankind and contributed to building a system of values that has become the common good of the whole democratic world. For a small Montenegro, which has a long tradition of friendship with the great America,it is an honor to belong to the circle of countries that adopt and share these values. For us, this is especially important after we have restored our country and regained international independence on a democratic referendum nine years ago”, Djukanovic underlined.
He stressed Montenegro is today a factor of stability in the Balkans, a leader in the integration in the region, with 20 negotiating chapters opened in the EU accession process and the anticipation of an invitation for membership in NATO by the end of this year.
Djukanovic expressed gratitude to the US administration and the American people for the continued support and assistance in the implementation of comprehensive reforms, which largely contributed to Montenegro achieving significant results in terms of economic and overall development, and specific strategic foreign policy objectives.
“We believe that the partnership that we have been building together will help the fulfilling of the remaining commitments from the Euro-Atlantic agenda, which will in turn help the United States and other partner countries ease their position upon deciding to call Montenegro for membership in the Alliance. I want to assure you that this will be in favor of the stability of the region, and therefore the European and global security”, it is said in Djukanovic’s message.
